Dark Mode and Color Themes are at the core of FolkPatch's visual system. We provide not only basic light/dark mode switching but also intelligent color management and theme export mechanisms, ensuring your visual preferences are perfectly presented in different scenarios.

Dark Mode System

FolkPatch supports extremely flexible mode control, allowing you to freely switch based on ambient lighting or system settings:

  • Follow System (Auto Adaptive): Automatically syncs with Android system's light/dark settings for global visual consistency.
  • Force Mode: Regardless of system status, you can force "Always Light" or "Always Dark" mode.
  • Smart Export Saving: When you export and share a theme, the system will fully save your current mode preference (Light/Dark/Adaptive), ensuring other users get the exact same visual experience when importing.

Color Themes & Material You

We employ advanced color generation algorithms to make system tones both personalized and harmonious:

  • Material You Dynamic Colors: On Android 12+ devices, supports extracting core tones from wallpaper to automatically generate a complete set of harmonious UI colors.
  • Custom Theme Color: Built-in 17 curated color palettes (such as Indigo, Pink, Emerald, etc.), supporting manual specification of accent colors for interactive elements.
  • Follow System Accent Color: Supports directly reading the system's accent color settings, making FolkPatch seamlessly blend with your phone's system.

Design Language Upgrade: M3E

FolkPatch has progressively upgraded from Material Design 3 (MD3) to the M3E (Material 3 Expressive) design language. M3E is the expressive evolution of Material Design 3, introducing richer visual expressiveness while maintaining the foundational MD3 specifications:

  • Larger Corners & More Flexible Shape System: Component shapes are bolder with larger corner radii, resulting in a softer and more modern visual feel.
  • Enhanced Color Expression: Building on Material You dynamic colors, M3E provides richer color layers and more vivid tone application.
  • More Expressive Typography: Font size contrast is stronger, with clearer visual hierarchy between headings and body text.
  • Dynamic & Responsive Layout: Component spacing and padding are more flexible, better adapting to different screen sizes and content densities.

This upgrade spans FolkPatch's entire interface, including settings pages, all theme templates, and dialog components, delivering a more refined and unified visual experience.

Global Feature Integration

Dark mode is not just about color changes; it also triggers a series of global feature integrations:

  • Dual-Cut Transparency Auto-Adaptation: When entering dark mode, card background transparency automatically fine-tunes to enhance text contrast in low light.
  • Color Depth Optimization: Dark mode automatically reduces color saturation and increases contrast, effectively reducing visual fatigue during extended use.

How to Set Up

  1. Go to Personalization Settings > Global Features.
  2. Find the Dark Mode & Colors option.
  3. Set your Theme Mode (Light, Dark, Adaptive).
  4. Select your Color Theme source (Wallpaper extraction, Preset palette, or Follow system).

Enabling "Dark Mode Follow System" combined with "Material You Dynamic Colors" is the recommended configuration for the most native and comfortable visual experience.
